Background:

  • Chondrosarcoma is a rare malignant bone tumor.

Observation:

  • A 30-year-old woman presented with a painless calcaneal nodule of 8 years duration, which became painful.
  • Imaging revealed an aggressive, osteolytic lesion involving the calcaneus, talus, and lateral malleolus with soft tissue invasion.

Findings:

  • Histological diagnosis confirmed chondrosarcoma.
  • The patient underwent multiple amputations due to local recurrence.
  • Metastasis to soft tissues and lungs occurred, leading to death 22 months post-diagnosis.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the rarity and aggressive nature of calcaneal chondrosarcoma in young individuals.
  • Emphasizes the importance of early diagnostic investigation, including advanced imaging, for prompt management.
  • Timely intervention may improve outcomes and reduce the risk of malignant transformation and mortality.
