Dual processing theory and experts' reasoning: exploring thinking on national multiple-choice questions.

Non-analytical reasoning, or pattern recognition, was more effective for answering medical questions correctly. Analytic reasoning did not improve accuracy, suggesting a continuum of cognitive processes rather than distinct systems.
