Diagnosing early diabetic neuropathy can be difficult. This study suggests testing the ulnar and median nerves using nerve conduction studies (NCS) for better detection of diabetic nerve damage.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the most effective electrodiagnostic protocol for early detection of diabetic neuropathies.
  • To identify key nerves for NCS in diagnosing diabetic neuropathy.

Main Methods:

  • Review of findings and existing evidence on NCS in diabetic neuropathy.
  • Analysis of electrophysiological abnormalities in both upper and lower limbs.

Main Results:

  • Electrophysiological abnormalities are prevalent in the upper limbs of diabetic patients.
  • Upper limb NCS parameters are often abnormal even when lower limb parameters are normal.

Conclusions:
