Black adolescent's source, quantity, and quality of sex related information
Abstract:
This investigation explored the impact of the sexual socialization of Black adolescents on teenage sexual behavior. Using a phenomenological approach, familial triads composed of adolescent daughter, mother, and grandmother were surveyed. The construct of sexual socialization was defined in terms of familial communication about three sexually related topics: the menstrual cycle, sex, and contraception. Findings suggest the role of mothers as formal agents of sexual socialization to be of great importance. However, the quality of information needs to be improved.
