Factors Affecting Protein-Drug Binding: Patient-Related Factors01:29

Factors Affecting Protein-Drug Binding: Patient-Related Factors

417
Protein-drug binding, a pivotal aspect of pharmacokinetics, is subject to considerable variability influenced by an array of patient-related factors. The intricate interplay of age, individual differences, and pathological conditions significantly impact the binding dynamics and subsequent pharmacological effects.
Age stands as a key determinant in protein-drug binding. Neonates, characterized by low albumin content, experience heightened concentrations of unbound drugs such as phenytoin and...

Factors Affecting Illness01:18

Factors Affecting Illness

5.6K
When a person's physical, emotional, intellectual, social development or spiritual functioning is compromised, this deviation from a healthy normal state is called illness. Illness creates stress that in turn harms individuals. Irritation, anger, denial, hopelessness, and fear are behavioral and emotional changes an individual experiences in the phases of illness. A variety of factors influence a person's health and well-being.
For instance, risk factors are connected to illness,...

Factors Affecting Drug Distribution: Miscellaneous Factors

1.2K
Drug distribution in the human body is a complex process influenced by various individual factors, including age, pregnancy, obesity, diet, body water composition, pH levels, and specific disease conditions.
Age plays a significant role due to differences in body composition among different age groups. Infants, for instance, have a higher proportion of total body water and lower albumin levels, a protein that binds drugs in the bloodstream. This unique composition in infants enhances the...

Obedience01:08

Obedience

35.7K
According to obedience research, we may harm others under the forceful pressures of an authority figure (Milgram, 1974). How about if the inappropriate orders were delivered with less force? The increasing interdependence between nurses and physicians compelled Hofling and his colleagues to explore nurses’ reactions to a potentially harmful medical request made by the perceived authority figure, the doctor (Hofling, Brotzman, Dalrymple, Graves, & Pierce, 1966). In this situation,...

Factors Affecting Dissolution: Drug pKa, Lipophilicity and GI pH01:21

Factors Affecting Dissolution: Drug pKa, Lipophilicity and GI pH

4.3K
Drug absorption within the gastrointestinal (GI) tract is a complex process influenced by several critical factors, including the site pH, the drug's dissociation constant (pKa), and the drug's lipophilicity. The GI tract exhibits a pH gradient, with an acidic environment in the stomach and a more alkaline environment in the small intestine. This pH variation directly affects the ionization state of drugs.
A drug's pKa and the pH of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract play crucial roles...

Summary

Physician assistant (PA) faculty are unlikely to leave their positions, but organizational support, role conflict, and age significantly influence this decision. Understanding these factors can improve PA faculty retention.

Area of Science:

  • Medical Education
  • Health Professions Education
  • Faculty Development

Background:

  • Physician assistant (PA) faculty are crucial for training future healthcare providers.
  • Understanding factors influencing PA faculty intent to leave is vital for academic program stability and quality.
  • Limited research exists on the specific predictors of PA faculty attrition.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To identify demographic, human capital, organizational, and environmental factors predicting physician assistant (PA) faculty intent to leave.
  • To analyze the relative contribution of various factors to PA faculty turnover.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional predictive study surveyed 994 physician assistant (PA) faculty from the Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA) database.
  • Exploratory factor analysis identified key variables, and multiple regression analysis examined their predictive power on intent to leave.
  • Response rate was 34.5%, with 271 usable responses for analysis.

Main Results:

  • Physician assistant (PA) faculty reported low intent to leave (mean score 3.06).
  • Organizational support (β=-0.41), role conflict (β=0.15), and age (β=-0.13) were significant predictors of intent to leave.
  • The combined independent variables accounted for approximately 40% of the variance in intent to leave.

Conclusions:

  • Organizational support, role conflict, and age are key predictors of physician assistant (PA) faculty intention to leave.
  • These findings underscore the importance of supportive work environments and clear role definitions for retaining PA faculty.
  • Implications exist for targeted faculty development and retention strategies within PA programs.
