[Intrusion of primary teeth: case reports].

    Summary

Intruded primary teeth often fail to re-erupt naturally and require surgical removal after permanent teeth emerge. This management approach can lead to damage in developing permanent teeth.

    Area of Science:

    • Dentistry
    • Pediatric Dentistry
    • Oral Surgery

    Background:

    • Primary tooth intrusion is a dental trauma where the tooth is pushed vertically into the alveolar bone.
    • Management strategies for intruded primary teeth vary, impacting outcomes for both the primary and succedaneous teeth.

    Observation:

    • This study describes three cases of intruded primary teeth.
    • In all observed cases, the intruded primary teeth were intentionally left untreated and did not spontaneously re-erupt.

    Findings:

    • Surgical extraction of the intruded primary tooth was necessary after the eruption of the permanent successor in all three cases.
    • Damage to the permanent successor tooth occurred in two out of the three cases following this management protocol.

    Implications:

    • Conservative, non-interventionist management of intruded primary teeth may lead to complications requiring surgical intervention.
    • Delayed management of intruded primary teeth poses a risk of damage to underlying permanent teeth, necessitating careful clinical consideration.
