Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor of proximal third tibia

This case report highlights a rare malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) in a teenager presenting as a tibial swelling. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) proved effective for diagnosing this spindle cell sarcoma.

- Two prior fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) procedures suggested spindle cell sarcoma.
Findings:
- The tibial swelling was diagnosed as a Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor (MPNST).
- This case underscores the rarity of MPNSTs in this age group and location.
- FNAC was instrumental in achieving the correct pathological diagnosis.

- Early and accurate diagnosis of MPNSTs is crucial for timely management.
