Dermatologic symptoms without signs. Seeking the cause of itching, pain, and burning

A patient may seek medical help because of dermatologic itching, pain, or burning that is unaccompanied by visible lesions. Although referral to a dermatologist may be necessary, the primary care physician is at times able to manage such patients if he or she is aware of some of the common causative diseases, including preeruptive herpes zoster, polyneuritis, and aquagenic pruritus.
