Aortic valve calcification (AVC) affects 28.9% of patients over 60. AVC prevalence and severity are higher in men and older individuals, but AVC is independent of coronary artery calcification.

- Degenerative aortic valve calcification may be an independent process from atheromatous disease in the coronary arteries and aorta.
- Despite shared risk factors, AVC appears distinct from coronary and aortic atherosclerosis.
