    • To develop a convenient and efficient method for solubilization, purification, and functionalization of CNTs.
    • To utilize phosphotungstic acid (HPW) as a versatile reagent for CNT processing.

    • Solubilization and purification of CNTs using phosphotungstic acid (HPW) and sonication.
    • Removal of impurities (amorphous carbon, metal catalysts) via centrifugation and filtration.
    • Functionalization of purified CNTs by assembling titania nanoparticles and albumin molecules.

    • Stable solutions of individual and small bundles of CNTs were achieved.
    • Purified CNTs were obtained with a high yield of 82 wt%.
    • Successful assembly of titania nanoparticles and albumin onto CNTs without altering their electronic properties.

    Conclusions:

    • Phosphotungstic acid (HPW) provides an effective and versatile approach for CNT purification and functionalization.
    • The developed method is simple, efficient, and yields high-purity CNTs.
    • This approach can be extended to functionalize CNTs with various other materials, including inorganic nanoparticles and proteins.
