Two new C19-diterpenoid alkaloids, straconitines A and B, were identified from Aconitum straminiflorum roots. Their chemical structures were determined using comprehensive spectroscopic methods.
Area of Science:
- Natural Products Chemistry
- Organic Chemistry
- Pharmacognosy
Background:
- Aconitum species are a rich source of bioactive alkaloids.
- Diterpenoid alkaloids possess diverse pharmacological properties.
- Aconitum straminiflorum is a lesser-studied species for its chemical constituents.
Purpose of the Study:
- To isolate and characterize novel C19-diterpenoid alkaloids from Aconitum straminiflorum.
- To elucidate the chemical structures of the isolated compounds.
- To contribute to the understanding of the chemical diversity within the Aconitum genus.
Main Methods:
- Extraction of alkaloids from the roots of Aconitum straminiflorum.
- Isolation of compounds using chromatographic techniques.
- Structure elucidation employing spectroscopic analyses: Infrared (IR) spectroscopy, Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry (ESI-MS), High-Resolution ESI-MS (HR-ESI-MS), 1D Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and 2D NMR spectroscopy.
Main Results:
- Two new C19-diterpenoid alkaloids, designated straconitines A (1) and B (2), were successfully isolated.
- The structure of straconitine A was determined to be 14-benzoylducloudine D.
- The structure of straconitine B was determined to be 6-hydroxy-14-benzoylducloudine D.
Conclusions:
- The study successfully identified and characterized two new diterpenoid alkaloids from Aconitum straminiflorum.
- The findings expand the known chemical library of Aconitum alkaloids.
- This research provides a foundation for further pharmacological investigations of these novel compounds.
