Abstract:
Rheumatoid arthritis(RA)is one of common autoimmune diseases. As with other complex disorders, recent genome-wide association studies(GWASs)have greatly contributed to our understanding of RA etiology. In this review, the genetic configuration of RA as revealed through GWASs is described. In addition, I discuss the pathologic mechanisms of RA as suggested by the findings of genetic and functional studies of individual RA-associated genes, and the potential use of genetic information for novel drug discovery.
