Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Hematology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Multiple myeloma is a plasma cell malignancy.
  • Testicular plasmacytoma is an extremely rare extramedullary manifestation.
  • This case represents the 34th reported instance of testicular plasmacytoma.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe a unique case of testicular plasmacytoma in a patient with multiple myeloma.
  • To utilize immunoperoxidase histochemistry to characterize the tumor cells.
  • To review and compare with previously reported cases.

Main Methods:

  • Case report of a 65-year-old male patient.
  • Immunoperoxidase histochemistry for immunoglobulin isotype analysis.
  • Review of clinical and morphologic features of prior testicular plasmacytoma cases.

Main Results:

  • The testicular plasma cells demonstrated immunoglobulin of the same isotype as the patient's paraprotein.
  • Confirmed the neoplastic origin of the testicular lesion.
  • Detailed the clinical presentation and pathological findings.

Conclusions:

  • Testicular plasmacytoma can occur in patients with multiple myeloma.
  • Immunoperoxidase histochemistry is valuable for confirming the relationship between testicular plasmacytoma and systemic myeloma.
  • Highlights the importance of considering extramedullary involvement in multiple myeloma.
