Dead or alive? New confirmatory test using quantitative analysis of computed tomographic angiography

Computed tomographic angiography (CTA) can confirm brain death (BD) when nuclear medicine perfusion tests (NMPT) are unreliable. A CTA Hounsfield unit threshold of less than 80 in key cerebral arteries indicates absent physiologic cerebral perfusion, confirming BD with high accuracy.
