The Class II caries lesion. Part 2: Alternative direct cavity preparations

Abstract:
The ideal restorative material for the restoration of approximal caries in posterior teeth is not yet available. With increased understanding of the carious process and the introduction of new materials, there is a variety of options available for the restoration of the Class II lesion. It is appropriate that new types of cavities be designed to maximise the benefits and minimise the disadvantages of using these materials. Unfortunately, the widespread adoption of these new materials and cavity designs is hampered by a dearth of well-controlled long-term clinical studies.
