[Abdominal sonography in small animals. II. Examination technics]
1I. Medizinischen Tierklinik, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.
Abstract:
The diagnosis of abdominal diseases with sonography requires a thorough and systematic examination. Indications for sonography are manifold; contraindications do not exist. After 12 to 24 hours of fasting, the abdomen of the dog or cat is clipped and the animal examined--either in dorsal or lateral recumbency, or whilst it is in standing position. For a correct evaluation of the findings, exact adjustment of the apparatus, accurate orientation on the monitor screen, and knowledge of possible artefact formations are essential. The ultrasonic examination is concluded by a written and illustrated documentation.
