Rectosigmoid prolapse--A case report

Background:

Observation:

• A 62-year-old female presented with severe perianal pain due to a large, incarcerated rectosigmoid prolapse.
• The prolapsed segment was edematous and ulcerated, precluding manual reduction.

Findings:

• Emergency surgical resection of 50 cm of sigmoid colon with rectopexy was performed.
• The patient experienced a successful outcome with no recurrence at six months post-surgery.

Implications:

• Emergency surgery is a viable and effective strategy for massive, incarcerated rectal prolapse.
• This case underscores the importance of timely surgical intervention for complex rectal prolapse presentations.
