Differentiation of preadipocytes is regulated by insulin-like growth factor-1

Preadipocytes converted to adipocytes when insulin-like growth factor-1 or insulin was added to a medium depleted of those compounds. A variety of mRNA molecules characteristic of the adipocytes were induced.
