The choice of suture materials should be based on sound scientific knowledge. This concluding section of a two-part article discusses the use of nonabsorbable sutures and suture needles, and examines issues related to suture materials, such as suture diameter (gauge), tissue reactivity, knot and knot security, workability, and tensile strength.
