Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Genetics

Background:

  • Linear atrophoderma of Moulin (LAM) is a rare, acquired dermatosis characterized by Blaschkoid-distributed, hyperpigmented, atrophic plaques.
  • The exact pathogenesis of LAM remains unclear, with theories suggesting a link to post-zygotic genetic mosaicism.

Observation:

  • A 40-year-old woman presented with asymptomatic, linear, hyperpigmented atrophic plaques on her right back and upper extremity.
  • The lesions exhibited a biphasic pattern, appearing first in late adolescence and then again in adulthood.

Findings:

  • The patient's presentation was consistent with a diagnosis of linear atrophoderma of Moulin.
  • The acquired and progressive nature of the Blaschkolinear dermatosis was noted.

Implications:

  • Studying the pathogenesis of this rare condition may provide insights into other dermatoses.
  • Further research into LAM could elucidate the role of genetic mosaicism in acquired skin conditions.
