Increased D-dimer levels double the risk of post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) after deep venous thrombosis (DVT). While inherited hypercoagulability like factor V Leiden (FVL) isn't generally linked to PTS, it strongly correlates with severe post-thrombotic ulceration.
