[Arterial hypertension--multicirculus vitiosus vasorum]
Insights
Arterial hypertension, defined by blood pressure values, is a vascular disease and a significant risk factor for numerous other vascular conditions. It causes and results from endothelial dysfunction and organ damage.
Area of Science:
- Cardiovascular Medicine
- Vascular Biology
- Hypertension Research
Background:
- Arterial hypertension is a critical health issue with far-reaching vascular implications.
- Recent literature highlights its complex role in cardiovascular pathology.
Purpose of the Study:
- To review recent publications on arterial hypertension.
- To evaluate their contributions to understanding this vascular disease.
Main Methods:
- Literature review of studies on hypertension.
- Analysis of published documents from recent years.
Main Results:
- Arterial hypertension is characterized by blood pressure measurements, not symptoms.
- It acts as a vascular disease and risk factor for atherosclerosis, thrombosis, and aneurysms.
Conclusions:
- Arterial hypertension is both a cause and consequence of endothelial dysfunction and organ damage.
- Blood vessels are integral to the pathophysiology of hypertension and related vascular diseases.
Aim:
The aim of this review is to address documents and a number of studies on hypertension published in the last years in order to assess their contribution to our expanding knowledge of arterial hypertension.
Discussion:
Arterial hypertension is not defined by symptoms and signs but by numbers of blood pressure values. Arterial hypertension is vascular disease (vascular risk factor) of many vascular diseases (atherosclerosis; arteriolosclerosis/arteriolonecrosis/arteriolocalcinosis; arterial thrombosis; arterial embolism; arterial thromboembolism; arterial dissection; complicated arterial aneurysm) and other.
Conclusion:
Arterial hypertension is cause and consequence of functional (endothelial dysfunction) and of structural organovascular injury (multiorganomultivascular disease). Blood vessels are culprits, implements and victims of arterial hypertension and of organovascular arterial diseases.
