We developed KiT (Kinetochore Tracking), an open-source software for automated analysis of kinetochore motion during cell division. This tool enhances the study of chromosome dynamics in live-cell imaging.

Area of Science:

  • Cell Biology
  • Biophysics
  • Computational Biology

Background:

  • Kinetochores are crucial protein complexes that mediate chromosome attachment to the mitotic spindle during cell division.
  • Understanding kinetochore dynamics is essential for comprehending chromosome segregation and cell cycle regulation.
  • Automated quantitative tracking of kinetochore motion has revealed complex behaviors previously unobserved.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To introduce KiT (Kinetochore Tracking), a novel, user-friendly, open-source software package.
  • To provide a tool for automated, quantitative tracking of kinetochore motion in live-cell fluorescent microscopy movies.
  • To facilitate detailed analysis of kinetochore behavior during mitosis.

Main Methods:

  • KiT software package implemented in MATLAB.
