Abstract:
(18)F-fluoride is a bone-specific PET tracer that was first described 40 years ago, but it has been more extensively investigated in the setting of bone metastases only in more recent years. (18)F-fluoride PET is a highly sensitive method for detecting bone metastases in many cancers, and the use of (18)F-fluoride with hybrid PET/computed tomography (CT) further improves specificity with the additional morphologic information available from the CT component. (18)F-fluoride provides complementary information to tumor-specific PET tracers, and it is likely that this imaging method will continue to be used more routinely and for newer applications to grow.

Fundamental Principles of PET
Positron Emission Tomography
One of the main requirements of a PET scan is a positron-emitting radioisotope, which is produced in a cyclotron and then attached to a substance used by the part of the body...

Pulmonary Angiogram
A Pulmonary Angiogram is an invasive procedure involving injecting a contrast medium through a catheter threaded into the pulmonary artery or the right side of the heart to visualize the pulmonary vasculature. Computed Tomography (CT) scans have mainly replaced this...
