1Center for Advanced Wound Care, Beth Israel Medical Center and Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, NY.

Its recognition provides common nomenclature, opens research directions, and questions assumptions regarding pressure ulcers as a quality measure. Adoption of the term is a step toward uniform terminology in compliance with a value based payment system.
