Abstract:
It has been suggested by our manager that we use a dependency score to demonstrate the level of care our ortho/medical elderly care patients require. The score chart we are currently using is also used in our local acute general hospital. To many of us the chart is inappropriate as patients are scored high if they are receiving subcutaneous or IV fluids, IV antibiotics, prep for theatre, being admitted or discharged, or complicated dressings.
