Background:

  • Soft tissue healing is critical for bone regeneration in oral surgery.
  • Wound dehiscence (wound opening) occurs in 2.5%–10% of augmentation procedures.
  • Existing flap designs may not provide sufficient coverage, leading to complications.

Observation:

  • A novel inverted double flap closure technique was applied.
  • Two patients with insufficient bone volume underwent alveolar reconstruction using autogenous block grafts.
  • Flaps were elevated in two layers before augmentation.

Findings:

  • Both patients experienced uneventful healing without complications.
  • The technique provided double the coverage of the augmentation site compared to conventional methods.
  • Stable keratinized tissue and vestibule depth were maintained post-surgery.

Implications:

  • This double flap design offers enhanced wound closure for bone augmentation.
