Multifocal intraocular lenses (MF-IOL) are generally well-accepted, with explantation needed in less than 1% of cases. Explantations due to optical discomfort were rare, occurring in only 0.28% of patients.

- Explantation was required in 12 cases (0.83%), with causes including refractive surprises, epiretinal gliosis, optical discomfort (0.28%), zonulolysis, and late-onset glistening.
- Causes unrelated to optical geometry accounted for the majority of explantations.
Implications:
- Diffractive MF-IOLs demonstrate good patient acceptance and a low rate of explantation due to optical issues.
- Full visual acuity recovery was achieved in all cases 12 months post-explantation.
