[Severe trampoline injuries and their risk factors among children and the young]
Background:
Although the majority of trampoline injuries in children are minor, severe injuries occur as well.
Methods:
We have analyzed the risk factors, treatment and outcome of severe trampoline injuries treated in the Oulu University Hospital in children and the young between April and November 2105.
Results:
There was a total of eight severe injuries. Five injuries involved a danger of death. Almost all severe trampoline injuries resulted from an unsuccessful trick. A safety net was in use in half of the cases.
Conclusions:
All cervical spine injuries would have been avoided provided that the children would have refrained from doing a somersault on the trampoline.
