    Background:

    • Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide.
    • Understanding precipitating factors (PF) is crucial for stroke prevention strategies.
    • This study investigated PF in different stroke subtypes.

    Observation:

    • Precipitating factors were identified in 63.7% of 300 stroke patients.
    • Factors occurred within 24 hours (60%) or 2-3 days (40%) prior to stroke.
    • Common PF included physical effort, extreme temperatures, psychic trauma, and unfavorable head/body positions.

    Findings:

    • Physical effort (32.3%), extreme temperature (29%), psychic trauma (23.3%), and certain body positions (23%) were the most frequent precipitating factors.
    • These factors often occurred in combination.
    • No statistically significant differences in PF incidence were found among carotid ischemic, vertebrobasilar ischemic, and hemorrhagic stroke types.

    Implications:

    • Identifying common precipitating factors can inform targeted public health campaigns for stroke risk reduction.
    • Awareness of these triggers may empower individuals to modify behaviors and potentially prevent stroke.
    • Further research could explore the mechanisms linking these PF to stroke onset in diverse populations.
