A rare large pseudoaneurysm, a vascular complication, was diagnosed in a patient with a history of chest trauma. This finding highlights the importance of considering pseudoaneurysms in trauma patients presenting with chest masses.

Background:

  • Chest trauma can lead to rare vascular complications.
  • Pseudoaneurysms are abnormal dilatations of a blood vessel segment, often resulting from injury.

Observation:

  • A 57-year-old male presented with dyspnea, cough, and hemoptysis.
  • A large 27 cm × 20 cm right chest mass was identified on CT scan.
  • The patient had a history of severe motor vehicle accident (MVA) chest trauma in 1981.

Findings:

  • Initial workup raised concerns for a malignant process.
  • Surgical resection revealed the mass to be a large pseudoaneurysm.
  • Pseudoaneurysms are exceptionally rare following blunt chest trauma.
