Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS)
A Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS) is a specialized type of healthcare information system tailored to meet the unique needs of nursing practice. It incorporates the principles of nursing informatics to streamline information management and improve the quality of care delivery.
Critical attributes of NCIS include:

Integrated Healthcare System01:20

Integrated Healthcare System

2.5K
An integrated healthcare system (IHS) is a set of organizations that provides for or arranges to provide coordinated and continuous service to a defined population. The IHS takes responsibility for that particular population's health status and outcome, both clinically and fiscally. An integrated healthcare system is a well-organized, well-coordinated, and collaborative network. The integrated delivery system is a network that connects different healthcare providers to deliver organized,...

Dosage Regimens: Partial Pharmacokinetic Parameters

246
It is not uncommon for complete drug pharmacokinetic profiles to remain elusive in pharmacokinetics. This necessitates certain educated assumptions by pharmacokineticists to determine appropriate dosage regimens without comprehensive pharmacokinetic data from animal or human studies. One prevalent assumption is setting the bioavailability factor, denoted as F, to 1 or 100%. This assumption caters to the scenario where a drug doesn't achieve full systemic absorption, resulting in the patient...

Methods of Documentation III: PIE

2.1K
Problem-intervention-evaluation (PIE) is a systematic approach to documentation used in healthcare settings for clinical decision-making and patient care planning. It is a structured approach to organizing patient data based on problems, interventions, and evaluations. Here's a breakdown of its key features and considerations:

Nursing Evaluation01:15

Nursing Evaluation

4.6K
The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Area of Science:

  • Health Informatics
  • Medical Informatics
  • Pharmaceutical Management

Background:

  • Pharmacy Information Systems (PIS) are integral components of Hospital Information Systems (HIS).
  • PIS manage drug distribution, inventory, and reporting in healthcare settings.
  • Effective PIS are essential for efficient hospital operations and patient care.

Observation:

  • This study evaluated PIS in five general teaching hospitals in Tehran, Iran, in 2015.
  • A validated checklist assessed general and specific criteria of the PIS.
  • Data were collected through checklists and direct system observation.

Findings:

  • The evaluated PIS demonstrated deficiencies in both general and specific criteria.
  • Only two out of five systems offered adequate protection against unauthorized access attempts.
  • Patient safety aspects were notably overlooked in the specific evaluation criteria.

Implications:

  • Current PIS in these hospitals are predominantly geared towards financial management.
  • There is a significant gap in clinical functionalities and patient safety features within the studied PIS.
  • Recommendations for PIS enhancement should prioritize clinical integration and patient safety to improve healthcare delivery.
