Abstract:
Metamizole, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug with weak anti-inflammatory and spasmolytic effects, is used as an analgesic and antipyretic agent. Many adverse reactions to metamizole, such as early or late-onset systemic reactions and bone marrow suppression, have been identified. In this report, we present a case of systemic reaction after the application of parenteral metamizole (Novalgin(®) ampoule; Sanofi Aventis, İstanbul, Turkey) and discuss the mechanism underlying the reaction.
Insights
Metamizole, an analgesic and antipyretic drug, can cause systemic reactions. This case report details a systemic reaction following parenteral metamizole administration and explores its underlying mechanisms.
Area of Science:
- Pharmacology
- Clinical Medicine
- Drug Safety
Background:
- Metamizole is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for pain and fever.
- Known adverse reactions include systemic effects and bone marrow suppression.
- Parenteral administration routes require careful monitoring.
Observation:
- A case of systemic reaction following parenteral metamizole (Novalgin®) administration is presented.
- The reaction occurred after the application of the drug.
- Detailed clinical observations of the reaction were recorded.
Findings:
- The study focuses on a specific instance of systemic reaction to metamizole.
- Discussion includes the potential mechanisms contributing to the observed reaction.
- This highlights the importance of recognizing and understanding metamizole-induced adverse events.
Implications:
- Understanding the mechanisms of metamizole-induced systemic reactions is crucial for patient safety.
- This case report contributes to the pharmacovigilance of metamizole.
- Clinical practitioners should be aware of potential severe adverse reactions to parenteral metamizole.

Antiasthma Drugs: Mast Cell Stabilizers and Anti-IgE Drugs
Mast cell stabilizers, such as cromolyn (also known as sodium cromoglycate) and nedocromil (Tilade), are effective drugs in asthma management. These stabilizers hinder histamine release by skillfully obstructing the activation of mast cells and other cellular entities. Notably, they navigate this task without...
