Torque-onset determination: Unintended consequences of the threshold method.

Threshold-based torque-onset-detection (TOD) methods can lead to inaccurate comparisons of muscle contractile properties between groups like children and adults. Relative thresholds (5% MVC) reduce bias but do not eliminate it.

- Threshold-based TOD methods can misrepresent muscle contractile properties when comparing dissimilar groups (e.g., children vs. adults).
- Fixed thresholds introduce significant group-specific biases, leading to erroneous conclusions.
- Relative thresholds (5% MVC) reduce confounding group comparisons, though some error may persist.
