Summary

The Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS-25) shows strong validity with the QuickDASH for pediatric upper extremity trauma. PROMIS-25 may be better for post-surgery assessments, while QuickDASH is useful for higher-functioning patients.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess correlations between PROMIS-25 domains and QuickDASH scores in pediatric UE trauma.
  • To explore variations in these correlations across demographic subgroups and perioperative timing.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective study at a single tertiary pediatric trauma center.
  • Analysis of 591 paired PROMIS-25 and QuickDASH questionnaires from pediatric UE injury patients.
  • Spearman correlation coefficients and Rho-to-Z transformations were used.

  • PROMIS-25 may be more suitable for postoperative assessment due to its ceiling effects.
  • QuickDASH can offer complementary data for higher-functioning patients.
