Abstract:
Providing teaching for open heart and transplant patients and their families is an important and rewarding role for the professional nurse. Through patient teaching, the nurse provides the patient with information that facilitates informed consent, prepares the patient for pre- and postoperative experiences, hastens postoperative recovery, and eases the transition from hospital to home.
