Upper airway changes following single-step or stepwise advancement using the Functional Mandibular Advancer

The Functional Mandibular Advancer (FMA) treatment method, whether single-step or stepwise, did not significantly alter pharyngeal airway dimensions, soft palate, tongue, or hyoid bone position in Class II subjects.

- Both SSG and SWG showed significant oropharyngeal airway enlargement and reduced soft palate angulation compared to CG.
- Tongue height increased significantly only in the SWG.
- Hyoid bone showed more forward movement in SSG and SWG, but vertical changes were not significant.
Conclusions:
- The method of mandibular advancement (single-step vs. stepwise) with FMA did not significantly impact pharyngeal airway, soft palate, tongue, or hyoid bone changes.
- Both advancement methods yielded comparable outcomes regarding the evaluated craniofacial structures.
