We developed a new acoustic signal localization method, estimated source energy homogeneity (ESEH), that outperforms traditional techniques. ESEH minimizes errors and costs for industrial and academic applications.
Area of Science:
- Acoustics
- Signal Processing
- Vibration Analysis
Background:
- Acoustic signal localization is crucial for various industrial and academic fields.
- Existing localization methods face challenges in accuracy and computational efficiency.
Purpose of the Study:
- To introduce a novel acoustic source localization technique: estimated source energy homogeneity (ESEH).
- To evaluate ESEH's performance against conventional methods using synthetic and experimental data.
Main Methods:
- Developed ESEH based on energy attenuation and inverted source amplitude comparison.
- Validated the method using numerical Lamb wave propagation models.
- Tested ESEH on experimental 2D plate data acquired with accelerometers.
Main Results:
- ESEH demonstrated superior performance compared to arrival time, time reversal, and energy amplitude localization.
- The proposed method achieved significant error minimization.
- ESEH proved to be computationally and financially cost-effective.
Conclusions:
- The estimated source energy homogeneity (ESEH) method offers a versatile and high-performing solution for acoustic signal localization.
- ESEH surpasses conventional techniques in accuracy and efficiency.
- This technique holds promise for advancing applications in acoustics and signal processing.
