Background:

Morbid obesity is a growing public health concern, with bariatric surgery as a common treatment.
Existing bariatric procedures often involve anatomical changes, resections, or require maintenance.
There is a need for effective weight loss solutions with fewer complications.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate a novel minimally invasive vertical gastric clip technique for morbid obesity.
To assess the efficacy and safety of the gastric clip in promoting weight loss.
To determine if the gastric clip avoids anatomical alteration and is reversible.

Main Methods:

Prospective data from 117 patients undergoing the vertical gastric clip procedure were collected between November 2012 and February 2016.
The gastric clip is a silicone-covered titanium device placed without stapling or resection.
The device creates an excluded gastric pouch while allowing gastric juices to empty distally.

Main Results:

Patients achieved 66.7% excess weight loss over a 39-month follow-up period.
The procedure demonstrated minimal adverse events, with an average surgery time of 69 minutes and hospital stay of 1.3 days.
Fifteen clips were electively removed, and two were removed due to displacement, indicating reversibility.

Conclusions:

The vertical gastric clip is an effective bariatric procedure for significant weight loss.
This technique avoids complications associated with traditional bariatric surgeries, such as resection and anatomical changes.
The gastric clip offers a reversible and minimally invasive option for managing morbid obesity.
