Background:

• Periodontitis is a common oral disease affecting adults.
• Occlusal interventions are sometimes used in periodontal treatment, but their efficacy is debated.

Purpose of the Study:

• To evaluate the evidence for occlusal interventions in adults with periodontitis.
• To assess effects on tooth loss, probing depths, clinical attachment level, and patient-centered outcomes.

• Systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
• Searched multiple databases up to April 2008.
• Included RCTs with a follow-up of at least 3 months.

• Only one RCT met the inclusion criteria.
• Occlusal adjustment showed a statistically significant improvement in clinical attachment level in both non-surgical and surgical periodontitis treatment groups.
• No significant difference in probing depth reduction was observed; tooth loss and adverse effects were not reported.

• The current evidence base is insufficient to support or refute the use of occlusal interventions in periodontitis management.
• Further high-quality, adequately powered, and bias-protected randomized controlled trials are required.
