[Treatment of acute cholecystitis complicated by mechanical jaundice]

From the results of treatment of 127 patients with acute cholecystitis complicated by obstructive jaundice, the author concluded that jaundice is an unfavourable complication from the standpoint of prognosis and causes an effect on the immediate and late-term results of treatment. Early operation conducted after intensive preoperative management makes it possible to arrest the acute inflammatory process in the gallbladder and prevent the development of hepatic insufficiency in obstructive jaundice.
