Area of Science:

  • Infectious Diseases
  • Microbiology
  • Pharmacology

Background:

  • Cat scratch disease (CSD) is a bacterial infection typically caused by Bartonella henselae.
  • Diagnosis of CSD can be challenging, often relying on a combination of clinical signs, serology, and PCR.
  • The causative agent is suspected to be an intracellular Gram-negative bacillus with a deficient cell wall.
