In operant conditioning, the timing of reinforcement is crucial. For animals like rats and cats, immediate reinforcement (within a few seconds) is much more effective than delayed reinforcement. Sensory timing prediction, driven by stimulus probability, significantly impacts early brain responses. Task relevance did not affect these responses, suggesting prediction dominates attention in temporal processing.
