Xanthogranuloma

The skin of the head and neck is an area of predilection for xanthogranuloma, called nevoxanthoendothelioma. Spontaneous resolution is the usual course for this benign, nonneoplastic lesion that is composed of macrophages and Touton giant cells and occurs principally in infants and children. Mucosal lesions occur with or without skin lesions and in the head and neck affect the oral cavity, nasopharynx, and salivary glands.
