Reliability and Validity01:29

Reliability and Validity

14.2K
Reliability and validity are two important considerations that must be made with any type of data collection. Reliability refers to the ability to consistently produce a given result. In the context of psychological research, this would mean that any instruments or tools used to collect data do so in consistent, reproducible ways.

Formulating and Validating Nursing Diagnosis II01:25

Formulating and Validating Nursing Diagnosis II

4.2K
Nursing diagnoses represent a problem validated by major defining characteristics. There are four categories of nursing diagnoses: problem-focused, risk, health promotion or wellness, and syndrome. The anatomy of a nursing diagnosis includes three components: problem statement or diagnostic label, defining characteristics, and related factors.
Risk nursing diagnoses represent clinical judgments of an individual, family, or community more vulnerable to developing the health problem than others...

Data Validation01:03

Data Validation

7.1K
Data validation is an essential part of a comprehensive assessment. Validation is confirming or verifying and opening the door to gathering more assessment data as it clarifies vague or unclear data. The process of checking and verifying the collected information is called data validation. The primary purpose of data validation is to ensure data is as free from error, bias, and misinterpretation as possible.
Nursing assessment guides are generally based on holistic models rather than medical...

Formulating and Validating Nursing Diagnosis I

4.3K
A nursing diagnosis is written when the nurse recognizes a cluster of essential patient data indicating health problems treated with independent nursing interventions. The standardized terminologies of a nursing diagnosis help nurses identify and treat patients' problems. Every electronic health record that uses nursing diagnosis must employ standard diagnostic terminology. Developing an efficient, individualized care plan begins with accurate nursing diagnoses.

Nursing Evaluation01:15

Nursing Evaluation

4.6K
The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Longitudinal Research02:20

Longitudinal Research

13.6K
Sometimes we want to see how people change over time, as in studies of human development and lifespan. When we test the same group of individuals repeatedly over an extended period of time, we are conducting longitudinal research. Longitudinal research is a research design in which data-gathering is administered repeatedly over an extended period of time. For example, we may survey a group of individuals about their dietary habits at age 20, retest them a decade later at age 30, and then again...

Area of Science:

  • Nursing workforce dynamics and generational differences.
  • Development and validation of psychometric instruments.

Background:

  • The European nursing workforce comprises three generations, yet research on their characteristics and professional management is limited.
  • No existing instrument specifically measures these generational aspects in nursing.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop and validate the international Multidimensional Nursing Generations Questionnaire.
  • To assess the reliability and validity of a novel instrument for measuring generational characteristics in nurses.

Main Methods:

  • Development of 69 items based on prior research, translated and pretested.
  • Instrument tested on 1302 Finnish and Italian nurses using principal component analysis and Cronbach's alpha.

Main Results:

  • A 54-item instrument with eight components was identified: intergenerational conflict, patient safety views, intergenerational relationships, multigenerational teamwork, change orientation, presenteeism, intention to leave, and flexibility.
  • Cronbach's alpha for components ranged from 0.61 to 0.81, indicating satisfactory internal consistency.

Conclusions:

  • The Multidimensional Nursing Generations Questionnaire demonstrates acceptable preliminary psychometric properties and internal consistency.
  • The questionnaire is a valuable tool for assessing generational characteristics in nurses and informing targeted management strategies.
