Two novel diterpenoid alkaloids, 14-benzoylliljestrandisine and 14-anisoylliljestrandisine, were identified in Aconitum tsaii roots. Their chemical structures were determined using advanced spectroscopic and mass spectrometry methods.
Area of Science:
- Natural Product Chemistry
- Organic Chemistry
- Pharmacognosy
Background:
- Aconitum species are known sources of bioactive alkaloids.
- Diterpenoid alkaloids represent a significant class of natural products with diverse pharmacological activities.
- Aconitum tsaii is a lesser-studied species within the Aconitum genus.
Purpose of the Study:
- To isolate and characterize new chemical constituents from the roots of Aconitum tsaii.
- To elucidate the structures of novel C19-diterpenoid alkaloids.
Main Methods:
- Isolation of compounds using chromatographic techniques.
- Structure elucidation employing Infrared (IR), Ultraviolet (UV), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy (1D and 2D), and Mass Spectrometry (MS).
Main Results:
- Two new C19-diterpenoid alkaloids, named 14-benzoylliljestrandisine (1) and 14-anisoylliljestrandisine (2), were successfully isolated.
- The structures of compounds 1 and 2 were definitively determined through comprehensive spectroscopic analysis.
Conclusions:
- The study expands the known chemical diversity of Aconitum alkaloids.
- The identification of these novel compounds contributes to the chemotaxonomic understanding of Aconitum tsaii.

Antidotes
Specific antidotes operate by inhibiting the enzymes that control biochemical pathways, reducing the production of harmful metabolites.
An example of an antidote is atropine, which counteracts the detrimental effects of cholinesterase inhibitors. It achieves this by deactivating muscarinic receptors,...

Aromatic ring substitutions: Substituting the aromatic ring with –OH groups at positions 3 and 4 yields catecholamines (e.g., epinephrine), which have a high affinity for adrenoceptors. Hydrogen bonding between –OH groups and receptors enhances adrenergic activity.
