Summary

A fractured implant screw was successfully removed using a bur, enabling the restoration of a damaged dental implant. This simple, noninvasive technique offers a viable solution for complex implant complications.

  • A patient presented with a fractured prosthetic screw and a damaged implant hex connection in the upper left second premolar.
  • Initial attempts at screw removal using conventional methods were unsuccessful.
  • Fragments of the fractured screw were lodged within the implant head.

Findings:

  • A novel technique utilizing a bur successfully removed the fractured screw fragments.
  • A cast post (gold-palladium) and a fixed prosthesis (silver-palladium) were fabricated.
