Context:
Non-invasive markers for diagnosis of acute rejection (AR) following liver transplantation have not been developed, yet.
Objective:
We analyzed the correlation of plasma microparticle levels (MP) with AR.
Materials And Methods:
MP (CD4, CD8, CD25, CD31, MHC) of 11 AR patients and 11 controls were analyzed within the first week after transplantation.
Results:
CD4, CD8 and CD31 positive MP were higher in the AR, whereas overall MP count, CD25 and MHCI positive MP proportions did not differ between both groups.
Discussion And Conclusion:
MP dynamics within the first period of transplantation could help to clarify on-going mechanisms of immunomodulation.
Insights
Plasma microparticle (MP) levels may help diagnose acute rejection (AR) after liver transplants. Higher CD4, CD8, and CD31 positive MP were found in AR patients, suggesting potential diagnostic value.
Area of Science:
- Immunology
- Transplantation Medicine
- Biomarker Discovery
Background:
- Non-invasive diagnostic markers for acute rejection (AR) after liver transplantation are lacking.
- Early detection of AR is crucial for graft survival and patient outcomes.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the correlation between plasma microparticle (MP) levels and acute rejection in liver transplant recipients.
- To explore the potential of MP as non-invasive biomarkers for AR.
Main Methods:
- Plasma samples from 11 AR patients and 11 controls were analyzed within the first week post-transplantation.
- Levels of specific MP subsets (CD4, CD8, CD25, CD31, MHC) were quantified.
Main Results:
- Significantly higher proportions of CD4, CD8, and CD31 positive MP were observed in patients with AR compared to controls.
- No significant differences were found in overall MP count, CD25, or MHCI positive MP proportions between the groups.
Conclusions:
- Plasma MP dynamics in the early post-transplantation period may offer insights into immunomodulation mechanisms.
- Specific MP subsets show potential as non-invasive biomarkers for diagnosing acute rejection in liver transplantation.
