Abstract:
A considerable increment of r-RNA content is observed in the developing egg; when the embryo emerges from the yolk system, the amount has increased approximately forty times. High specific rates of r-RNA synthesis - measured after incubation for three hours in an atmosphere of14CO2 - occur during the formation of the germ anläge and the first differentiation of the germband.Eggs developing without a germ anläge behave like normal eggs concerning the r-RNA-synthesis. Up to the yolk cleavage the rates of synthesis are quite comparable to those of normal eggs. In later stages they decrease, and equal the rates that can be measured in the yolk system of normal eggs.
