The renin-aldosterone system is an endocrine system which guides the renal absorption of water and electrolytes, thus managing blood pressure and osmoregulation. Background:

Widespread concerns exist regarding Testosterone Therapy (T Therapy) for Testosterone Deficiency Syndrome (TDS).
Existing evidence-based guidelines may not fully address current controversial issues.
Media and scientific communities have raised questions about appropriate T Therapy protocols.

Purpose of the Study:

To develop eight consensus statements addressing controversial issues in Testosterone Therapy (T Therapy).
To provide evidence-based answers to current debates surrounding T Therapy.
To clarify the appropriate treatment of TDS with T Therapy.

Main Methods:

Systematic literature review of Medline, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases (May 2005-May 2015).
Analysis of 1714 articles, including 52 clinical trials and 32 placebo-controlled randomized controlled trials.
Development of consensus statements by the Executive Committee of the British Society for Sexual Medicine.

Main Results:

A comprehensive review of scientific literature on HG, T Therapy, and cardiovascular safety was conducted.
Evidence from clinical trials and randomized controlled trials informed the consensus statements.
Eight key statements were formulated to address specific controversial issues in T Therapy.

Conclusions:

The consensus statements provide specific guidance on controversial aspects of T Therapy for TDS.
These statements are intended to supplement, not replace, existing evidence-based guidelines.
The British Society for Sexual Medicine aims to clarify T Therapy use and address safety concerns.
